Helping Your Child Succeed: Revision Strategies at St Peter's Collegiate Academy

We understand how important it is for students to develop good revision habits from an early age. That’s why we actively teach students from Year 7 through Sixth Form how to revise efficiently and effectively. We want all our students to feel confident in their learning and prepared for exams.

We also know how important it is for parents to be involved in their child’s learning. Click here to download our helpful parents' guide to revision, which offers some practical tips to help you support your child with revision.

Make sure you have a look at the homework page of our website too, where you’ll find resources to support your child’s learning and revision at home.

Helping Students Understand How They Learn

We believe that understanding how we learn is key to successful revision. That’s why we help students learn how to remember and recall information, so they can make the most of their study time. During form time and assemblies, we teach them about how the brain processes, remembers, and retrieves information. We also emphasise the importance of regular review and practice, which helps them retain what they've learnt in the long term.

    Academy-Wide Revision Tools

To support your child’s learning, we use three main revision tools across the academy:

    Knowledge Organisers

These help students focus on the most important information for each subject, giving them a clear summary to refer to during revision.

    Mind Maps

Mind maps are a great way to help students make connections between ideas, improving their understanding and helping them remember key points.

    Flashcards (using the Leitner System)

We teach students to use flashcards in a way that strengthens memory by reviewing them regularly, focusing more on areas where they need extra practise.

    KS3 Revision Revolution: A 7-Week Program

At St Peter’s, we’re helping KS3 students build strong study habits through a 7-week "Revision Revolution" program. Each week, students will focus on a different skill or strategy to improve their revision techniques and overall learning. Here’s what they’ll cover:

    Week 1: How We Learn
Understanding how the brain processes and remembers information.

    Week 2: Knowledge Organisers
Learning how to use these tools to break down important information by subject.

    Week 3: Mind Maps
A visual approach to help students connect ideas and improve memory.

    Week 4: Flashcards
Techniques for using flashcards to reinforce key information.

    Week 5: Time Management
Tips for organising revision time effectively.

    Week 6: Learning from Mistakes & Self-Reflection
Encouraging students to learn from errors and reflect on their progress.

    Week 7: Motivation, Aspiration & Self-Care
Focusing on staying motivated, setting goals, and maintaining a healthy balance during revision.

Form Time Revision Revolution for KS4 Students

Our KS4 students take part in a weekly "Revision Revolution" session during form time. These sessions are designed to help students understand how to revise effectively. They cover important topics like how we learn, different revision techniques, staying motivated, and planning a revision schedule.

Students also get practical, hands-on opportunities to try out the strategies they've been taught, so they can find what works best for them.

    Pearson Revise

Our school has subscribed to Pearson Revise, an online revision platform designed for KS4 students. To access it, students just need to click 'Sign in with Google' and use their SPCA email address.
