What is Gifted and Talented?
Gifted and Talented pupils are children or young people with one or more abilities developed to a level significantly ahead of their year group (or with the potential to develop these abilities). Gifted refers to pupils who show significant potential in academic subjects such as English, Maths and Science. Talented refers to pupils showing significant potential in practical subjects including Design Technology, Music and PE
Gifted and Talented Students are those working significantly above age related expectations.
Gifted students have the opportunity to share their ideas around learning and what works well for them through an online interview organised by the SEND Department. Gifted children may need more support at school, but not necessarily more structured activities. They may need more freedom to learn at their own pace, and/or more guidance. They are identified thorough the use of Data collection primarily on entry to School.
Talented students are recognised through Teacher assessment. Practical ability is likely to be a key factor in Drama, Art, Music or Sport
A student may have one or more areas in which they are gifted or talented. A student may be both Gifted and Talented.
Gifted and Talented Students have an area on the school web site where enrichment events are highlighted as possible sources of broadening their education, knowledge and skills.
We trust all our Gifted and Talented Students feel valued within our school community and hope that should they have queries or suggestions they are able to drop in to the SEN Office or make an appointment to see me.
