Modern Foreign Languages (Spanish)

Why study Spanish?

Spanish is the official language in twenty-one countries, which means that by learning Spanish, you can communicate with lots of people from different parts of the world. Learning Spanish gives you access to the Spanish-speaking world.  In today’s globalised world, knowing a second language can make a huge difference to your job prospects and there’s a growing demand for bilingual employees in many industries.

Spanish-speaking countries have a rich cultural heritage, and learning Spanish can give you access to their media. From TV shows to movies, music and literature, there’s a wealth of content to explore. Do you love to travel? Spanish is the second most widely spoken language in the world. Learning a new language is a great way to challenge yourself and grow as a person. Studies have shown that learning a second language can improve cognitive function, memory, and creativity.

Curriculum Vision

The Modern Languages Department aims to develop resilient and independent linguists who enjoy listening, reading, speaking and writing competently in a foreign language. We create a supportive and inclusive learning environment in which students are able to appreciate and explore differences, whether cultural, spiritual or religious. We encourage learners to step outside of familiar cultural boundaries and develop new ways of seeing the world. The experiences we offer encourage learners to extend their language skills through real-world scenarios, broadening their horizons beyond the classroom. We strongly believe that excellent linguistic skills and awareness will give St Peter’s students an advantage in the world of work.
